FAQ & Help
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a partner?
NO! In fact dancing is a great way to meet new friends and dance partners.
Do I have to switch partners in the classes?
While we realize that some folks come as partners and others come alone, we all develop lead–follow mistakes as novice dancers. When you’re with the same partner all the time these quirks start to feel like the correct way to dance. Our change-of-partners policy helps everyone avoid falling into numerous pitfalls that are difficult to correct later on. Learning to adjust to other partners is the sign of an experienced dancer. Everyone tries a little harder, patience level is increased, and people do become better dancers. Also, we do often get you back with your regular partner.
Doesn’t changing partners make the classes go slower?
The classes actually go faster because everyone is more focused on what the teacher is saying. Students tend to be more patient with each other as they’re dancing with other new partners. By the time you get back with your regular partner, you’ll be surprised at how well he or she is doing.
What should I wear?
Dressy/Casual attire (no jeans, please). Some of our students come straight from work in office attire. But it’s more important to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
What kind of shoes should I wear?
Leather-soled shoes are recommended. Please do not wear shoes with soles that grip the floor. No stiletto shoes or shoes with dark soles that scuff the floor.
